The Prehistoric Diet - Paleo Diet

After the celebrations of the holidays, those extra pounds have accumulated, so we began to look for options to recover the figure, but especially good eating habits to have good health. One option may be the Paleo diet.

The Paleo diet is also known as the stone age or caveman diet, it bears that name because it is a diet based on what our ancestors ate in the Paleolithic period, for example: fruits, meat, vegetables, fish and shellfish.

The foods consumed by our ancestors provide sufficient amounts of vitamins, proteins, minerals and antioxidants, what is sought to avoid are processed foods as well as dairy products, legumes and cereals.

This diet is very similar to Keto, since both are low in carbohydrates, but what is the difference between a paleo diet and Keto?

One of the main differences is the place of origin of the calories, in the Keto diet these come from fats compared to the Paleo diet, which are obtained from proteins, since the diet is based on large amounts of animal protein.

What can’t you eat on the Paleo diet?
In the Paleo diet there are foods that you should stop considering when going to the supermarket to buy them, such as: flours, sugars, dairy products, packaged products, legumes and cereals (wheat, rice, barley, corn, oats), salt and alcohol.

In this diet, processed foods should be avoided, the best option is fresh and organic production is recommended.

What can you eat on the Paleo diet?
The Paleo diet is not as strict as the Keto diet, because it is not as exact with its portions as this, the foods that are allowed are fruits, nuts and olive oil as a good option to add to salads.

What fruits can you eat on the Paleo diet?
Fruits are usually a good ally when starting the Paleo diet, but it is recommended to eat fruits with low fructose content and a higher amount of antioxidants such as: apple, citrus (orange, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime), papaya , grapes, pineapple, guava and coconut.

It is also suggested to consume them in season, the less conservatives they have, the much better.

Example of a Paleo diet menu:
For breakfast you can eat: scrambled eggs with tomato, omelet with thorns and avocado or assorted fruit salad. These can be accompanied by coffee or tea.

At lunchtime they can be: roast beef with vegetables, salmon with asparagus or ground beef with a fresh salad. And to drink, plain water is preferable.

For dinner you can choose some raw or roasted vegetables as you prefer, such as carrot sticks with guacamole or a roasted banana.

It is important that before starting any diet, we do not forget to consult the doctor, since he is the one who will have the best recommendations according to our body.
