Will Nordic Diet Surpass the Mediterranean Diet?

Nordic countries such as Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, could have the secret to improve people’s health and overcome the benefits of the famous Mediterranean Diet.

According to scientific evidence, the Nordic Diet helps control inflammatory processes, promotes weight loss and lowers blood pressure in people with central obesity. This is especially important in patients with Metabolic Syndrome.

The diet is moderate in fat and protein, while completely eliminating packaged foods. It is characterized by the consumption of local and seasonal food, promoting home cooking and always fresh food.

The star foods are:

  • Canola tea oil
  • Berries
  • Fish
  • Tubers
  • Whole grains
  • Fruits
  • The meat is consumed moderately and must be organic.

In 2013, the Journal of Internal Medicine published a study linking the Nordic Diet with improvements in blood cholesterol levels and reduced inflammation in patients with metabolic syndrome. In 2014, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published that a Nordic diet promotes weight loss and lowering blood pressure in centrally obese individuals.

In addition, the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition of the University of Eastern Finland, indicated this year, that the Nordic Diet decreases the expression of the gene associated with inflammation in the fat tissue of overweight people. This inflammation of the fatty tissue is also associated with Metabolic Syndrome and atherosclerosis.

The Nordic Diet could be the Diet of 2015, capable of improving the health of many.
