The egg diet is a type of diet plan specifically aimed at express weight loss. It can be followed when you need to lose weight quickly for a special occasion like a wedding or a photoshoot, but it should ideally only last a few days.

Many people choose to follow this diet because it is easy to apply and promises significant and very rapid weight loss.

But what is it in reality? What to expect from the egg diet?

The principle of the egg diet
The egg diet can be compared to a ketogenic diet, and it is from this very principle that it derives its effectiveness. Carbohydrates are missing from the diet, but fat is allowed, which increases the production of ketones and aids weight loss, in addition to reducing appetite.

Eggs are foods rich in protein, fat and fat soluble vitamins. It is therefore alone a vector of many benefits for high protein and ketogenic diets.

Egg diet or “Egg Fast”?
Americans call the egg diet “Egg Fast” or “Egg Fast”. It pairs easily with young intermittent, ideal for rapid weight loss.

You can add a few foods to the egg diet, but its goal remains to remove all other food sources in order to make it as restrictive as possible.

This diet is supposed to be short (a few days at most). It is intended to jumpstart weight loss when you hit a plateau or to lose weight quickly for a specific event.

Different ways to cook eggs

Like all express and very restrictive diets, it exposes those who follow it for too long a period to serious deficiencies. Thus, it is strongly advised not to go on an egg diet or fast for more than a few days.

The importance of ketosis
The effectiveness of the egg diet relies on the production of ketones.
Ketosis occurs when the body does not have enough glucose to make energy, and ketones are produced by the liver as soon as we consume less than 50g of carbohydrate per day.

Ketones aid weight loss because they reduce hunger, increase energy levels and expenditure.

The keto diet is very popular for these reasons. The people who follow it to the letter are more tonic, more alert intellectually and do not suffer from hunger.

However, the egg diet is, while inherently ketonic, far too restrictive to be followed over the long term.

The benefits of the egg diet
The diet cuts hunger!
Like all ketogenic diets, the egg diet is very effective in reducing hunger. In addition, the egg is a food that increases satiety, which makes you feel full faster and for longer.

This is due to its high protein content. A medium-sized whole egg contains an average of 6 to 7g of protein, complete and extremely rich in essential amino acids.

Rapid weight loss
The lack of carbohydrates in the diet is associated with rapid weight loss. But beware, this is only a loss of water: 1 gram of carbohydrates indeed captures 4g of water. It is therefore normal to observe a drop in weight during the first few days, and this is precisely what you would expect from the egg diet.

To prolong weight loss and make it truly effective in burning fat tissue, it is advisable to institute a more complete and above all more varied diet plan, such as the ketone diet, after the egg diet.
