The proteins would help to reach the satiety threshold faster. These foods could help with weight loss, but as part of a doctor’s diet.
Increasing your share of protein would actually have an effect on satiety, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. A diet rich in protein would therefore lose weight. But, for effective and long-lasting weight loss, it is recommended to follow a diet prescribed by a doctor.
Researchers at Purdue University (USA) performed a meta-analysis of 43 studies dealing with weight loss and protein intake.
“Many people who want to lose weight spontaneously turn to foods rich in protein, because the idea is that associated satiety. Many studies have also suggested that proteins activate the release of the satiety hormone, however, for the most part, these are small studies, on limited samples or with such methodologies, that their interpretation remains questionable ”, explains Dr. Richard D. Mattes, professor of nutrition at Purdue University. “With this analysis, this is one of the first times that this concept has been validated on a large scale.”
The findings of their research confirmed that a food intake rich in protein (animal or vegetable) promotes feelings of fullness.
But, remember that the excessive consumption of animal proteins promote the onset of cancer and diabetes and inflame the colon.
REPLACE ANIMAL PROTEIN WITH PLANTS
As vegetable proteins have the same effect on satiety as animal proteins, and they are less harmful to health, they can be put on the menu. You can consume legumes combined with grains, anti-cravings pulses, soy protein, oilseeds or seitan.
