Ketogenic Diet – Fat Burning State

Ketogenic Diet - Fat Burning State

The goal of the ketogenic diet is to enter a state of ketosis through the metabolism of fats. In a ketogenic state, the body primarily uses fats for energy instead of carbohydrates; with low levels of carbohydrates, fats can be converted into ketones to fuel the body.

The process of feeding the whole body with fat, including the production of ketones, is called ketosis. Under normal circumstances, ketosis is safe and natural, for example when it results from a low-carbohydrate (“keto”) diet or while fasting.

On a keto diet, your body shifts its fuel reserve to run primarily on fat, burning 24-7 fat. When insulin levels are low, which can be caused by fasting, the body enters a fat-burning state. On a keto diet, your body finds it easier to access the fat deposits around the body and use these deposits as energy.

This is great if you’re trying to lose weight, but there may be other benefits too, like less hunger and a steady supply of energy without the sugar-induced highs that often occur when eating high-carb meals. The keto diet is ideal for mental acuity and energy

For ketosis, a typical adult must stay below 20-50 grams of net carbs, measured as total carbs minus fiber for each day. It’s not just bread and soda that are out, but high-sugar fruits and starchy veggies like potatoes, plus too much protein. Additionally, dieters need to be on high alert for hidden carbohydrates, often invisible to the eye or disguised as keto-friendly food.

Can i lose weight on the keto diet?
Yes. It certainly looks like this in the short term. For the first two to six months, there is evidence that a very low-carb diet can help you lose more weight than the standard high-carb, low-fat diet.

How long does it take to see results from the keto diet?
For some, it is the promised land of diets. Instead of shivering between carrot sticks, they can guilt-free fill up on scrambled egg chorizo. In fact, some evidence suggests that people feel less hungry while in ketosis and have fewer cravings. The keto diet appears to provide quick results – the first few pounds may seem to slip away. It can be seductive, but it’s probably the weight of the water. Beginners can start by trying the 21-day ketogenic diet.

How do you know when your body is in ketosis?
Any of these signs can indicate that you are in ketosis:

Decreased appetite and increased energy levels.
Increased thirst and urination.
Dry mouth or metallic taste in the mouth.
